HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
The Baymen have been busy wrapping up the fishing season, cleaning/repairing rods, reels, tackle, gear, etc. and transitioning into our guided hunting seasons.
DEER: One the coolest things about the current bow season for deer, is tons of people call, e-mail or stop me in stores and parking lots to tell me about all the deer they are seeing. Some days, I am getting a dozen deer reports! "HUGE BUCKS" top the sightings.
I was just in Sandy Lamperts Market on Saint George St. in Duxbury (awesome general store!) and a girl standing in line said she just saw the biggest buck of her life walk through her yard. She said she lived in upstate New York for ten years and knows what a big buck looks like. She said this one topped them all! The Baymen have been getting some monster deer on our trail cams this past week as the rut is on fire and bucks are running wild fighting with other bucks and searching for does. It is a really exciting time to be in the woods if you are a bow hunter.

We have also been chasing waterfowl up and down the coast and into the central waterfowl zones. Early season was once again amazing with the skies filled with birds. This past week, it has been much slower with this awesome warm fall weather and the birds are not moving south. No reason to move when things are just great where you are at. Note to self: Waterfowl migrate the same speed as fall…
Baymen’s Miss Daisy-Mae has been getting in shape on the bunny trails. She has had a bunch of jumps this last week and is raring to go at the drop of a hat! Even when we are getting up at 3:00am to prep for waterfowl hunting, she rolls right out with us hoping we will change our minds and take her rabbit hunting instead. She is such a methodical rabbit hound and real joy to watch when figuring out a rabbit trail. She’s not a "jump" dog as some of the 15" inch snowshoe dogs are, but once she is on the track, she is on it until that bunny holes up!

The November BAYMEN Early Booking Promo is almost over. There is still time to save some huge money by booking up your trips early for next season. Here are the deals: Buy one trip at the regular season price, and get a second trip for just Half-Price! OR buy Two trips at the regular season price, and get a third trip for FREE! No limit on how many trips you can buy. The only catch is you must pay for your trips in full at time of booking to get this special offer. Well, I would like to thank all of our customers for your continued business, for following The Baymen Reports, and for keeping us posted on how you are doing in the woods and on the water. Best of the season to all and Happy Thanksgiving!

Look Who Showed Up…
This ten pointer showed up on one of our trail cams on September 9th. We never saw him again. Then, two and half months later he showed on one of our trail cams about a quarter of a mile away! So, where has be been hiding for the past two and half months?

MOUNTAIN LION SIGHTINGS CONTINUE…
This past Friday, my friend, Cliff, e-mailed me with incredible news: he had seen the mountain lion crossing a road in Duxbury!!! That lucky dog! I have been trying to track and get a glimpse (and a photo) for some time. There have been many eye witness sightings around town and a few articles in newspapers. But so far, nobody has got a photo of the Duxbury Mountain Lion, though many people have seen it. I have taken photos of the tracks, but they lack detail and are open to speculation. But Cliff’s sighting confirms what others have seen. In his own words:
“Dave you may not believe this but I just saw a puma crossing rt 53 about 6:45 friday night in Duxbury. An oncoming car helped illuminate it. The tail was long with a black tip. The animal held the tail like a big cat does. The shape of the animal and how it moved was just like a cat. The body looked as if it could be around 100 pounds…”
Puma, aka Mountain Lion or cougar, are nocturnal. A cat of around 100 pounds needs lots of meat each week and I am guessing he/she is hunting and killing deer as its primary food source. That MAY have something to do with the reason I have been seeing fewer deer around town this season. Or maybe the cars and bow hunters are just doing their job keeping the population in check. In any case, the big cat has been around town for at least one year, and it has to be eating well and venison is most likely on the menu.
So, keep your cameras handy and use caution when walking in the woods, especially at dawn and dusk (when most people are not walking/jogging the trails anyway). A mountain lion in our area is certainly a safety issue, in my sincere opinion. But I hope more people see it and that somebody gets a good photo.
