27 Bass, 2 Keepers, 1 big blue
A very low tide this morning at first light, –1.2 Dropped in and ready tot roll when my clients arrived. Repeat clients, Gary Condon, President/CEO or Affordable Closet Systems, his good friend, Ray, and his nephew, Matt. Light tackle top-water sight fishing was the plan and we got into it pretty good. A light E/NE wind and a minus tide was not ideal conditions. But it is the fall run, so that over rided the down side. Any other time of year, other than Spring, a minus tide and E wind is usually very slow fishing. But today, it was on!
Many very small pods of bass in the bay from Duxbury to Plymouth. A few medium blues were around as well. There was a decent mix of bait in the bay – pogy, peanut bunker, silversides, and another fish I could not I.D. Maybe juvy herring? The bass were like popcorn – up for ten seconds or so, and then back down. You had to plan your drifts or run and gun to a breaking pod and get in a cast or two quickly. We moved around a lot today. A few of my usual spots did not hold any bait or any bass. So, we watched for top-water and had a ball chasing the fish all morning.
Total catch today was 27 bass, 2 keepers, and 1 big blue. All on light tackle rubber crank baits with the exception on the blue. That fish took a drifted Stan Gibb’s Pencil Popper.
Back at it tomorrow.

19 STRIPED BASS THIS MORNING!
Fishing has picked up once again and we had a good early-morning fall blitz today! On board I had Ken Hartshorn, his friend, Frank and Frank’s son, for fly and light tackle. After getting beat up the past few days with chop, today the bay was nearly flat-calm, and high tide at sunrise. We scouted out waters from Duxbury to Kingston to Plymouth and found several small, fast-moving pods of top-water striped bass. These fish were running and gunning as they bulked up on whatever bait they could find and then kept moving south. We ran the bay and chased them from one end to the other. It was run and gun and a lot of fun.
I should mention that at sunrise, there was a good fog and haze over the bay with a small low pressure system moving offshore. This kept the morning bite going for the first two hours and then the front lifted, hot and sunny weather followed, and the top-water bite was over. From that point on, we fished structure and picked up a few more fish. Total catch and release this morning was 19 striped bass. We had one quickk shot at a monster top-water striped bass that cruised along the surface with his mouth wide-open as he sucked in some baitfish. His mouth was so wide, you could of fit a football in it! It was a big fish and we only saw him that one time… All in all, A great fall morning on the bay!

11 STRIPED BASS, 1 KEEPER THIS MORNING
Chris Barry and Tom Nutter on board this morning for light tackle. High tide and a low pressure front moving in brought a handful of fast-moving striped bass into the bay. They were busting top-water around the bay in very small pods, staying up for only ten seconds to two minutes. Then they were down and gone, racing across the bay in search of bait. We run and gunned the morning and chased small pods and did well for what was in the bay. Chris & Tom ended with 11 bass, and 1 keeper in the low 30’s, all on light tackle. Not a bad morning.
More fish should fill the bay this week as the low pressure system hangs over us for the next few days.

Still No Fish In The Bay…
Repeat clients, Jay & Diane Clancy on board this morning. We fished Plymouth to Duxbury very hard and covered a lot of water. No bait, no bass to speak of. We landed three fish for the morning. NE winds today may have been the factor. We got to bait in the bay for the bass to return as they migrate south. This could take a few tides or a few days… Stay posted:
