Finally, everything is back up and running at BAYMEN Guide Service, Inc. Full Report and photos to follow.

TODAY – Just got off the bay with good friend and client, Richard Comstock of NYC. Richard fishes with me a lot each year. This is our 8th season fishing together. Today, after the storm, inside the bay was quiet at sunrise and the low –1.3 tide. As the tide turned around, a lot of small, skittish bass came into the bay to feed. Richard fished a fly popper on a 9wt and we boated 8 bass and 1 tiny bluefish. It was a lot of fun and very challenging! The water temps at the dock at sunrise were 57 degrees. Out in the bay it was 63. When the tide turned and started into the bay, that water was a brisk 53 degrees… Lots of migratory birds on the bay and we saw one seal. All in all, a lovely day on the bay.

Back at it in the morning with repeat fly client Tom Knapp, of Long Island. Stay posted: More photos and reports to follow.

See the video of Santa landing this fluke on my facebook page, David Bitters.

4 for 9 Tonight, lost a monster largemouth on the fly…

Scouted out a few spots tonight for an upcoming fly rod charter for largemouth. Got nine hits on the top-water fly popper fished on floating line over the weed beds. One of the five fish I lost was a monster largemouth bass. The biggest LM I have ever had on the end of my line. It was an absolute cow… It slammed my red/white cork popper with white saddle hackle tail. I made a good hook-set and the fight was on. I was using an 8wt TFO rod and it was quite a fight. As I got it within ten feet of the boat, I saw the fish for the first time. It leaped, (or tried to) and got 2/3 of its body out of the water. It was just too big to leap clear of the water like so many of the smaller ones do. But somehow, when it came down, it threw the fly back at me and my line went limp. I reeled up in disbelief. I’ve caught a lot of Lm over the years, two of them topping eight pounds. This season, my biggest so far is a 5.2 pounder. This fish I had on tonight, blew all those away. I have never seen a fish with such a big mouth and such a massive girth…. Man, it hurts to lose a fish like this. But that’s fishing… You never forget the big ones you landed, but you never forget the big ones that got away.

Water Temps COLD!!! 54 degrees this morning…

The water temps on Duxbury Bay were COLD this morning, as low as 54 degrees in many places. But the fluke bite was still on in 24-34 feet of water. We used fluke rigs with squid skirts and spinners, spikes with mackerel belly strips. There is also a decent school of black sea bass in the bay this morning.
