New TFO Bass Rods Arrived Today!
Baymen’s new TFO Bass Rods arrived today. We are off to the brush and pads for some rubber frogging. The new TFO’s look and feel absolutely awesome! We will be fishing Underdog Bait Frogs tonight and they are going to get a real workout on the new rigs. These new rods are going to give us the backbone we have been searching for. Matched with our new spin reels and 65lb power pro, the Baymen have put together the ultimate FW Bass outfits for our guide service. Stay posted: Reports and photos to follow. – Capt. KEEPER ON THE FLY
On board this morning, I had new client, Brian Ware, for a morning of striped bass fishing with the fly rods. At first light, we found a school of breaking top-water striped with some real corkers in the mix. But they would pop up for ten seconds and be down for twenty minutes. We tried three times to get on them and got one hit, but did not hook up.
Off to spot number two, a little unknown cut in the middle of a flat surrounded by weed beds. Brain pulled two striped bass out of there on Capt. Dave’s Baymen Universal fly pattern.
Next up, we fished some structure on the incomming tide. We could look down and see BIG cow bass to forty or so inches. We got one fish to roll on our fly, but no takers after numerous drifts. That will drive a guide and fly rodder crazy! As the tide continued to rise, we looked up bay and gulls and terns were working top-water stripers chasing bait – a very rare sight in July… More and more schools of fish with keepers mixed in, continued to pour into the bay on the top of the tide. It was hot, sunny, and flat calm out there with a light west wind. Boats started to appear from everywhere and Brian and I both agreed it was starting to look like Labor Day on the bay!
Brian cast his chartreuse/white clouser into a pod of breaking fish and landed some good striped bass – including a fine keeper on the fly. We called it a slow but good July morning on the bay and came in just after noon.

Great Company, Five Drops on Bass
Great company tonight on board, but once again, our drops are outnumbering our hook-ups by a large margin. The Baymen are taking a break from RF’n until we get this figured out. We are getting A LOT of crushing hits on the rubber frogs, but we are getting very, very few good hook sets and LM’s landed. Tonight, we had a monster on. Hammered the frog, set the hook, fight on. Could not budge this fish! Then, it came flying out of the water, three feet into the air, shaking wildly and threw the frog back at us!!! All guesses on board were between five and seven pounds… A real heart-breaker, but at least we got to see it from front-row seats. It was very exciting!

Largemouth Pouncing Frog & Senko
Fished this morning for LM. Had a largemouth bass pounce on a rubber frog twice, no hook-ups. Switched over to the Senko and landed the bass!

5 Stripers, 1 Keeper This Morning
Tough summer July fishing on the bay today. Nothing picked up our baits, but the day was saved with some top-water light tackle fishing with poppers! On board today, I had new client, Michael Cecere and Co. We worked the bay at first light under a stunning sunrise with light tackle poppers. I was amazed to see top-water fish in this heat, and at this time of year. But we worked it hard and Michael put a keeper in the cooler. After top-water, we switched over to bait and started to hit my list of spots. Eight or so spots later, not a single pick-up on the baits! That tells me how few fish were actually in the bay today with this heat. Thank God for the sunrise top-water action, dead-calm seas, and stunning sunrise…!
