6 Keepers Today

IMG_7981

On board this morning, I had repeat clients Larry Richmond of Team SullyMac, and his grandson, Colton, Larry’s brother, John, and Larry’s co-worker, John. A good crew in search of striped bass! At first light, we were out front jigging for macks. Heavy fog was rolling in, it was humid, and the air was positively charged! The rods were humming and conducting like crazy. I took them all out of the rod holders and laid them down. Then, we pulled up and moved out of the area. At a new spot, no more charged air, and we jigged up some quick bait and ran back inside. First spot that has been on fire lately – no fish. Too soon on the turning tide. Next spot, hundreds of gulls and terns working bait. We get several runs and at the same time Colton hooks up on a keeper on light tackle. Lots of excitement! After we run out of bait, there is so much top-water in the bay, we decided to break out the light tackle with top-water poppers. Just great fishing in a major blitz on the bay. We landed six keepers, and a bunch of shorts for the morning. When we came in at 11:00am, there were still fish working under birds all over the bay. Once again, it looked like May out, not a day away from July… Just an awesome morning with some great anglers! Tomorrow, we are putting away the bass rods – and running a flounder fishing charter. Can’t wait! Stay posted:

20 Fish, 9 Keepers

The bay was on fire this morning, loaded with hundreds (thousands?) of striped bass. The water temps dipped to 63 degrees on average and the stripers poured into the bay on the rising tide. It looked like the spring blitz all over again. It was truly amazing and my charters and I could not be more delighted. To top it off, it was dead-flat calm the entire morning. You could see fish breaking a mile away…

On board at sunrise, I had Dick Watson, his friend, Frank, and Dick’s friend, Brenda from Oklahoma. The goal today was to jig up mackerel out front, come back into the bay and liveline for keepers to go home with the charters. The macks were thick, the striped bass were stacked and we had limited out on keepers by 7:00am. We caught and released all our fish today, as usual, except for six keepers that went into the cooler for the charters. It was an amazing morning and quite a surprise to see the bay so stacked with top-water fish on June 28th!

On board this morning, I had repeat client, John Rudicus, his son, Owen, and John’s friend, Mike. It was a perfect morning on the bay. Sunny, dead-calm, and top of the tide. We ran offshore to jig for bait and came back inside to liveline the structure. Several fine runs and John and Own both hooked up on some nice striped bass. Owen had to head to a birthday party, so we dropped him back at the dock with his waiting mom, and John, Mike, and I ran back out front to jig for more bait. We got on them pretty quick and ran back inside. Couple of decent runs and Mike got on the score board and added another fine keeper to the morning’s catch!

7 More Keepers This Evening…!

On board this evening, I had repeat client, Dr. Nick, his friend Jay, and his other friend Jay from Atlanta. We ran off shore and loaded up on mackerel and came back in the bay to liveline on the incoming tide. The bay was stacked with big striped bass on structure. We had an estimated twenty runs on live, whole dead, and chunk baits. We boated seven keepers to 38” inches. Unlike this morning in the east wind when the fish took the baits very gently, tonight they hammered them! Scorching run after run and the gentlemen did well hooking up, fighting, and landing some fine keeper striped bass. Great job, guys!

7 Keepers on live bait this morning…

Fished live bait with my charters, Matt & Tony from Taunton. We jigged up bait out front on some big rollers and caught air coming off the top of one of the waves. Fun stuff! We ran back inside with our bait and boated two keepers and dropped several more. The bass are mouthing the baits very lightly in the East NE wind. Back outside for round two of jigging. Loaded up and back inside to a new spot over structure and boated five more keepers. A fun morning with two great anglers on live bait.

9 Stripers, 2 Keepers

IMG_7892

Tom Lambert & Co. on board this morning for some LT and live-bait striper fishing. Heavy fog most of the morning, and a light east wind. We found birds working at first light and then went out front to jog bait. Some nice rollers on the east wind kept us in close. We boated a bunch of bait and ran back inside and fished about a dozen of my spots. A few fish here and there, nothing stacked. We really had to move around to put two keepers in the box. We had quite a few drops as well. But it was a fun morning and it felt more like September out there, than late June.

9 Stripers, 4 Keepers on Live Bait Today

On board this morning, Fred Murray and Son, Thomas. This is the eighth year they have been fishing with Capt. Dave & The Baymen. Dead-calm, low pressure, heavy overcast, very light E wind. Rain starting. A few fish on top-water with the low pressure system. Very finicky, very spooky, like ablies. But these were all stripers. We caught six on light tackle, including one keeper. Then, we ran out front to jig for bait. Back inside, we drifted out baits under birds and structure and picked up three more fish, all keepers. Not a bad morning for the summer pattern that is now the rule from here into August. Great job, guys! – Capt. Dave, The Baymen www.baymencharters.com (781) 934-2838 FB David Bitters
