25 STRIPERS, 5 KEEPERS Today…
A nice morning on the bay today with repeat client, Brian Golden, and his brother Dave up from NJ. We fished fly, light tackle, and even jigged up bait and live-lined mackerel. A great morning on the bay! Total catch today: 25 stripers, 5 keepers.

THE BAYMEN GET A FORTY!!!
Kevin Erickson, Gary Condon, and Matt fished with The Baymen this morning. 20 striped bass total, two keepers – a 31” for Gary and a whopping 40” incher for Kevin!!! Both fish were taken on light tackle. Gary’s striper took a 3” rubber crank bait in 24 feet of water, and Kevin’s whopper took a Gibb’s hard-bodied popper in red/white in eight feet of water. We also live-lined in the late morning and picked up only one short bass. Go figure!

DOZEN BASS, 1 KEEPER, DENSE FOG, SUNNY SKIES
A lovely morning on the bay today. I had repeat client, Joe McPherson & Crew on board today at first light for a striper hunt. Yesterday, I had Joe’s brother, Bill on board.
At first light an absolute stunning sunrise to start our day. We were into fish in no time at all. As with yesterday, they were very, very selective. But Joe and the boys kept at it and started to catch some fish. Joe hooked into a fine keeper, like his brother did yesterday, and we put that bass in the box for fillets.
Then, out of nowhere but the East, heavy, thick, dense fog rolled in, in a matter of minutes and socked in the bay. It stayed with us for over an hour before it started to break up and once again we had lovely, blues skies. We ran the whole bay inside today from deep into Plymouth at one end, and deep into Duxbury at the other. We met several other anglers on the bay and one of them, Tommy L., was just coming in from jigging macks outside. “Don’t bother” was the word. Macks were nearly non-existent out front today. Maybe tomorrow…
We ended our morning where we started: fishing top-water bass under birds, that were extremely skittish and very selective. But that was half the challenge. We ended the morning with 12 stripers and 1 nice keeper, all taken on light tackle.
Back at it in the morning. Stay posted:
*PS – I took some photos of a few other boats out there fishing with us and have posted them in today’s report

SLOW BITE TODAY–6 fish, 1 keeper
High pressure system this morning and the first west wind of the season on our bay. This slowed the fishing but we still made the best of it and had a lovely morning out there.
On board this morning, I had repeat client, Bill McPherson, and friends Frank and Ed for a morning of light tackle fishing. A lovely sunrise over the harbor as we headed out to working fish, bait and birds on the bay. The early morning bite was very good, but very short and the fish were skittish. We hooked up right away and put a nice keeper in the box. Then a few more shorts, and after that, it was bump and grind to catch a few more.
I did see a couple HUGE fish break water, that had to be over the 20 pounds plus. But all the fish were on a selective feed this morning and guess what the bait was? A half-inch long shrimp and tons of them. Also, the one inch long white minnows with tiny black eye were present. The fish responded like albies today and that made it tough. Up one moment, back down, to pop up again two-hundred yards away for another moment,, then back down… But Bill and crew stuck with it and we had a great morning and boated six fish total and one keeper, all on light tackle.
Back at it tomorrow. Stay posted:

25 FISH, 4 KEEPERS
Two striper thumbs up! Another great morning on the bay as the spring blitz continues…
On board this morning I had repeat clients Buck Rothwell and his two sons, Patrick and Christopher. The trio has been fishing with me for several years and we always have a lot of fun on the bay!
At first light, we found numerous pods of stripers working top-water bait, with hundreds of terns and gulls overheard. It was a South wind today – the first I’ve fished on the bay, since the E/NE winds and fog socked us in about ten days ago.
Today, the South winds drove all the fog away and it was overcast, COLD, and rained off and on all morning. And it was great striper fishing!
We worked a variety of light tackle on a variety of retrieves, and all of then worked, off and on, all morning. The stripers are still working on a selective feed and we checked the stomach contents on two keepers we put in the cooler: tiny, inch-long white/cream colored minnow with small, black eyes – the same predominant bait in the bay for the past ten days.
However, for those livelining, the macks have been thick out front and anglers bringing them back inside are reporting good to excellent fishing.
Total catch today for the Rothwells was 25 bass and 4 keepers, all taken on light tackle. I got a good striper thumb, too!

27 STRIPERS, 3 KEEPERS
BAYMEN REPORT – May 21, 2011
SATURDAY – On board this morning, I had first-time clients, Daniel Beaver and his friend, Dr. Nick. We departed at 5:30 in thick, dense fog… No surprise there. We were into top-water in no time at all and our first cast of the morning was a keeper striper! A good way to start the day. We fished the dropping tide into slack and boated 12 stripers and 2 keepers total. Then we headed back to port for a two hour break. Back out again on the rising tide and right back into fish – and more dense fog rolling in out of the bay. Lots of bird action as the spring blitz continues and we ended the morning with 27 stripers and 3 keepers. That’s a great morning on the bay. While fishing our last school of stripers, a huge, dense fog came down the coast and socked in the bay in a matter of minutes and I had to get us back home !
If you want to fish with Baymen this season, or next May in the Spring Blitz 2012, give Capt. Dave a call and lock in some dates. We will put you on the fish!

30+ Bass This Morning, 6 Keepers
On board this morning, I had long-time clients, Tom Bullock and his son, Mike. We delayed our trip a few hours to wait for the incoming tide and for heavy, dense fog to lift. When we got under way, we were into fish within twenty minutes and it was non-stop action all morning and afternoon long. The fish stayed on top and we found a pod early without any other boats fishing it, and were able to re-set and re-drift time after time. It was a great morning! Total catch 30+ stripers with 6 keepers in the mix, all landed on light tackle rubber crank baits.

FYI – Macks are stacked out front this morning.
